From a beginning in Eutaw, Alabama, Sonny Byers burst on the scene with a song in his heart and a determination to use his God given talents to bless the world.

Inspiration came from his Dad, Minister L.D. Byers and his Mother, Missionary Laura Byers.

Sonny completed his schooling in the Pacific Northwest, graduating from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington and the University of Puget Sound where he received a BA Degree in Business Administration. He also attended Fort Steilacoom Community College and received a degree in Advanced Music.

He is blessed with a wonderful wife, Susan, and a beautiful daughter, Stori, who graciously share him with the world.

Sonny is a full time musician for the Greater New Bethel Baptist Church in Seattle, Washington. He is also a part-time musician for Breath of Life Seven Day Adventist Church. He also serves as an Artist In Resident at T. T. Minor Elementary School.

He's a member of the National Song Writers Guild, the National Recording Arts and Science (Grammy's), the local Musician Union, affiliated with BMI as publisher, a writer and a Seattle Gospel Announcers Guild member.

Sonny enjoys writing songs, playing piano, bass, guitar and singing, recording, working with kids, going to movies, winning souls for Christ, spending time with the family.  

With his award winning career in music, has combined gospel, hip-hop and funk to give him a sound of his own.

Sonny was recently featured on KIRO TV in Seattle, Washington for his work with inner city youth. The program consisted of writing lyrics with high school students, recording and producing the music. Last fall Sonny's song "Put The Money In Your Pocket" was recorded by Terry Evans on the Audio Quest Records, JVC, Wanna Dance Records and is riding the charts in the United States as well as Europe. He continues to use secular music to plant gospel seeds.

Byers has spent over seven years as music director/vocalist for the backup band for The Platters, The Coasters and Buddy Knox. He has led his own band for seven years. He has also worked with Bobby McFerrin, Andre Crouch and Edwin Hawkins.

Because the group is so diverse they've carved a niche for themselves with a sound called "Gospel Funk".

Sonny is presently completing his first Gospel CD and has already received positive feed back from industry insiders. The title track "He's a Healer" is a toe-taper. This CD is for the young and old, the church and un-churched. You'll experience a healing of the soul as you listen to the music of Sonny Byers.
